REV. JESSE JACKSON IN THE HOT SEAT!

jacksonobama.jpg

By Pamela Gentry, Senior Political Producer July 10, 2008 – The Rev. Jesse Jackson is no stranger to controversy, media spotlight or the ground rules when speaking with the press.  But if he had forgotten, his latest slip of the tongue will serve as a pungent reminder to remember past lessons.

On Sunday, while in the FOX NEWS studio waiting to be interviewed, Jackson leaned over to another guest, Reed V. Tuckson, the former chief medical officer for the District of Columbia and President of the Charles Drew University in Los Angeles, and whispered, “Barack has been talking down to Black people. …I want to cut his nuts off.” In a rapid response, the founder of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition issued a statement denouncing the “crude” nature of his comments and apologized to the presumptive Democratic nominee.

“I apologize,” Rev. Jackson said Wednesday. “My support for Senator Obama’s campaign is wide, deep and unequivocal. I cherish this redemptive and historical moment.  My appeal was for the moral content of his message, to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of Black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility.”

Still, his actions brought swift rejection from the civil rights leader’s son, Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Ill.), the national co-chairman of Obama’s presidential campaign. In rallying behind his candidate, he proved that political alliances can be stronger than family ties. “I’m deeply outraged and disappointed in Reverend Jackson’s reckless statements about Senator Barack Obama. His divisive and demeaning comments about the presumptive Democratic nominee – and I believe the next president of the United States – contradict his inspiring and courageous career,” Jackson Jr. wrote in a statement.

Jackson said his comments were in reference to visits Obama has made to Black churches during his campaign, at which the 46-year-old senator has said Black folks are responsible for their families and their communities. While Jackson has also been outspoken about Black America’s responsibility to play an active role in improving its plight, he has been careful to highlight the government’s responsibility to provide equal opportunity and racial justice.

But, Jackson knows that everything one says while wearing a microphone in a television studio is on the record. He also knows that a careless remark – even one he thought was off the record – can be costly. After all, it was his clumsy reference to Jews as “Hymies” and New York as “Hymietown” during his 1984 presidential bid that nearly destroyed his lifelong work within the Jewish community. And his gaffe late last year about Obama “acting White” perhaps revealed Jackson’s latent belief that the Illinois senator’s political perspective was out of line with that of the traditional civil rights establishment.

Granted, this was a careless move on Jackson’s part, but I also know it was not intended to do harm to the Obama’s shot at being commander and chief.  After hearing his comments had been recorded, Jackson appeared on CNN to publicly apologize, issued a statement to the press and called the senator’s office with his apology.

His immediate actions may slow his roll on political chatter, but what it won’t stop speculation about some underlying dissention among old-school Black leadership regarding Obama’s candidacy.  The topic wasn’t on the radar before this and support for Obama appeared unwavering.

Bill Burton, spokesman for the Obama campaign, suggested that the brouhaha was being blown out of proportion. “Of course” the senator accepts the reverends apology, he said. Jackson’s son’s wasn’t so forgiving.  “Reverend Jackson is my dad and I’ll always love him,” he said But, “he should know how hard that I’ve worked for the last year and a half as a national co-chair of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. So, I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric. He should keep hope alive and any personal attacks and insults to himself.”

Whew, I bet the next family dinner will be a bit tense at the Jackson’s house.

Admin's take:
With all due respect Rev. Jackson. I think you are wrong for these statements. Obama was "balls on" accurate, [no pun intended] with his comments about black males. No way the government nor any policy stops anyone from taking on their responsibilities. We've got some lazy ass brothers in this world. Running out making babies and moving on. Some are even trifling enough to make 7 or 8, knowing they don't have a legal means of supporting them and don't plan to get one. The females are no less responsible either. But in todays society, there are more black female head of households then it was when I grew up. Men doing time for drug dealing is not the governments fault. I WILL NOT MAKE EXCUSES FOR SORRY ASS INDIVIDUALS. I WORK HARD!
And as a minister and a man, how can you speak on castrating your brother or a man period? I'm thoroughly disgusted.
For all the strides you've help to make in the past, you've put us back 50 years in 1 statement. At bigoted ass Fox news of all places. You gave the bigots something to try to soil us on. I hope you realize your credibility is shot. I wouldn't call you if I needed someone to stand up for anything. NOT ANYMORE!
Repent and Pray. But just Stay Away from us who want to move forward and be held accountable, with pride for what we do. Which is what, as adults and parents, we are suppose to do. Take care of our own!

MAYOR FRANK MELTON, INDICTED!

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Jackson Mayor Frank Melton has been indicted on federal civil rights violations connected to the tearing down a private home in 2006. The Justice Department on Wednesday announced the Melton's indictment. Also named in the indictments are Melton's two bodyguards, Jackson police officers Michael Recio and Marcus Wright. Grace Chung Becker of the Justice Department said the three men were charged in a conspiracy to tear down a private home in Jackson and thereby violate the civil rights of the owner and resident of that home.
In April 2007, all three men were acquitted of state charges
that they used sledgehammers and sticks to demolish a duplex Melton considered a drug house. Melton's attorney, Dale Danks, didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

FIVE OH

A Nation Of One. Fresh off a tour in Africa, where he had a memorable experience with a chain snatcher, 50 Cent was back stateside serving up his usual straight talk. Appearing on BET's "106 & Park" with what's left of G-Unit; Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo, Curtis talked about everything from the Sean Bell verdict to unity in the south.

On Sean Bell, 50 admits he did make a dedication to the slain Queens man - who hails from the same neighborhood as 50 - on the upcoming G-Unit album, Terminate On Sight. Unfortunately he has not spoken to Bell's wife Nicole Paultre-Bell nor donated any money to the family's cause.

On the south, Fif was less than complimentary when asked how the south stays so unified and the East coast doesn't.

"New York City is the mecca," 50 said. "It's the essence of where it comes from. The competitive nature of the art form it makes us compete more. There kinda in a survival circle 'like if we all hold on we might could stay close enough to the bay'. If you add them all up they'd be like one me. All of them."

Wow. Okay, first things first. I've never been one to insist that celebrities involve themselves with every mainstream social cause that arises. We should demand more from our politicians, not rappers. However, I must say I would have expected 50 to do more here, being that dude was from the very neighborhood he has tattooed on his back. Where's the love for the hood? Why is Game of all people making a tribute song about a dude from your hood. I'm certain no group of people on the planet are more proud of 50 Cent's career achievements, knowing that he survived the ills of that neighborhood to become a music icon. The least 50 could do is make a better effort to show his folks that he has there back in a time of need. Now, enough of this Rev. Archie Sharpton sh*t.

Let's talk about the massive insult Curtis served up to the south. To say that for every T.I., Ludacris, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, and Lil' Wayne of the south only adds up to one 50 Cent is crazy. Where are all the southern enthusiasts? How do you feel about this? Hit us up at: info@blackdollone.com and let us know how you feel.

Two Doctors, Pharmacist Arrested In Biloxi

BILOXI (WLOX) -- Two Biloxi doctors and a pharmacist are under arrest, charged with conspiring to distribute narcotics.

Dr. Thu-Hoa Victoria Van, Dr. Thomas Trieu and pharmacist Nick C. Tran were arrested Wednesday by federal drug agents at their offices on Division Street. Investigators say the three, along with Dr. Trieu's brother Richard Trieu working together to illegally provide and sell prescription drugs to people across the southeast.

The arrests come after a one year investigation by the Drug Enforcement Agency.

At 9:45am, DEA, along with Biloxi Police and law enforcers from 18 other agencies across the coast descended on Family Medical Center and Tran's Pharmacy on Division Street, as well as other properties owned by the suspects.

Agents seized drugs, documents and other items from both businesses. As the search was going on, authorities arrested three people believed to be customers who arrived to buy drugs.
